Meet our 2019 Team Innerforce Coach – Rick Lapinski

We can’t be happier to unveil our Team Innerforce coach for 2019. His name is Rick Lapinski, an age group athlete that kills it every time; a coach for top age groupers across many distances … and a school teacher!

Rick’s bio:

Rick has been an athlete for as long as he can remember. Growing up competing in team sports helped get those competitive juices flowing. Whether on the baseball diamond, soccer field, or ice rink, Rick wanted to not only push himself but help to push his teammates as well.

He continued his athletic career at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater where he played on the university’s men’s soccer team. The competitive spirit didn’t die upon completion of his soccer career at UW-W, though. Shortly after college, Rick registered for his first triathlon: the Chicago Triathlon.  The decision was made right then that he would continue to work as hard as he could to eventually compete in the Ironman World Championships in Kona, Hawaii.

Rick completed his first Ironman in Coeur d’ Alene, ID in 2008 when he finished in a time of 10:50:06.  Since then he has competed in countless races. Highlights include four overall wins, numerous age group podiums, and 16 Ironman finishes including: Ironman World Championships (2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2018), Ironman Coeur d’ Alene (2008, 2011), Ironman Wisconsin (2009, 2012, 2017), Ironman Arizona (2010), Ironman St. George (2012), Ironman Mont-Tremblant (2014), Ironman Louisville (2015), Ironman Boulder (2016), Ironman Texas (2017).

Rick has qualified for and raced in Kona five times, with a PR of 9:21:15 in 2013 when he was the 29th overall American finisher on the big island.

Rick has worked with all levels of athletes. Some of his athletes’ achievements include:

    What do you know in the way of minimalist training? Higher intensity, shorter duration programming for those of us with insane work schedules. Especially when trying to apply the training for longer distances (half IM and up).

    We don’t believe in “junk” yards/miles. We mix in higher intensity with aerobic base work. But…and this is a huge but…there needs to be a legitimate aerobic base built prior to utilizing high intensity workouts. For long course triathlon there are no short cuts. With that said there is also a large time difference for Ironman training vs half Ironman training. We work around plenty of crazy schedules and understand that life comes first and it should!! But those that claim to “race an Ironman on 7 hours a week of training” may not be “racing”. Every athlete is different. Reach out if you have some more specific questions, we’d be glad to answer.
